Queen Nefertari’s Egypt Highlights Ancient Egyptian Masterpieces

The New Orleans Museum of Art presents Queen Nefertari’s Egypt, on view March 18–July 17, 2022. As the favorite wife of Pharaoh Ramesses II (reigned 1279–13 BCE), Queen Nefertari had significant diplomatic and religious roles before her death in c. 1250 BCE, and she is linked to some of the most magnificent monuments of ancient Egypt. Artifacts presented in Queen Nefertari’s Egypt provide an extensive look into the power and influence of women during the New Kingdom period (c. 1539-1075 BCE), when Egyptian civilization was at its height.  Read More

NOMA Announces First Inaugural Creative Assembly Cohort

The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA), with the generous support of the Wagner Foundation, announces the 2021–2022 Creative Assembly Cohort, a multidisciplinary group of New Orleans-based creators selected to engage with the institution in a year-long exchange of ideas and inspiration. The Creative Assembly Cohort is comprised of a selection of creative minds who will immerse themselves within the museum’s collection and use the institution as a catalyst for their own work and creativity. NOMA Awarded Curatorial Intern Grant from the Decorative Arts Trust

The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) has been announced as the Decorative Arts Trust’s 2022–2024 Curatorial Internship partner. The significant grant, awarded from the Decorative Arts Trust, will support a two-year Curatorial Fellow who will learn about the responsibilities of the curatorial field while working with the NOMA’s esteemed Decorative Arts and growing Design collection, focusing specifically in the area of glass. NOMA Presents Career Retrospective for Acclaimed New Orleans Artist Dawn DeDeaux

The New Orleans Museum of Art presents Dawn DeDeaux: The Space Between Worlds, the first comprehensive museum exhibition for the pioneering multimedia artist Dawn DeDeaux, on view October 22, 2021 through January 23, 2022. One of the first American artists to connect questions about social justice to emerging environmental concerns, DeDeaux’s art responds to an uncertain future imperiled by runaway population growth, breakneck industrial development, and the imminent threat of climate change. Buddha and Shiva, Lotus and Dragon: Masterworks from the Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller 3rd Collection at Asia Society

On view March 13 through June 7, 2020, Buddha and Shiva, Lotus and Dragon showcases the broad range of bronzes, ceramics, and metalwork assembled by John D. Rockefeller 3rd (1906–1978) and his wife Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller (1909–1992) between the 1940s and the 1970s. With highlights including Chinese vases, Indian Chola bronzes, and Southeast Asian sculptures, the collection reveals great achievements in Asian art spanning more than two millennia. Read More

NOMA Announces Major Fund and Pledged Endowment from Del and Ginger Hall

The New Orleans Museum of Art announces a major fund and pledged endowment by Del and Ginger Hall of Chicago, Illinois, in support of the NOMA photography department. The fund will support and augment an ambitious set of exhibitions and programs in the department of photographs over the next five years, while the endowment will provide a foundation for the department’s activities in perpetuity.
