An Update from NOMA
While the last two weeks have been a difficult time for all of us, I am happy to report that the New Orleans Museum of Art staff are all safe and accounted for. On Wednesday, September 8, full power and internet services were restored to the museum. After the lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina, the museum developed an emergency preparedness protocol that is activated in anticipation of extreme weather events. Upon learning of the expected severity of Hurricane Ida, we began to immediately roll out the protocol in order to maintain the safety of NOMA’s collection, building, and grounds. Read More

Redesigning Artful Minds for 2020–21
Since 2015, NOMA’s Learning and Engagement department has worked with Poydras Home to offer Artful Minds, a program for visitors with Alzheimer’s and other dementias and their caretakers. Typically, Artful Minds was offered nearly once a month. Poydras Home residents and their family members were able to visit NOMA in January and February 2020. Then, like so many of the museums offerings during the coronavirus pandemic, it was necessary to redesign the Artful Minds program for the remainder of 2020. Read More

GIRLS NOLA Spends the Day at NOMA and the Besthoff Sculpture Garden
After several quiet months, the museum is slowly and safely welcoming small groups of young visitors back into our spaces, sprinkling chatter and laughter back into the sounds and rhythms of the galleries. Lit in hot pink on a Saturday in May, NOMA’s new Lapis Center for the Arts became home-for-a-day to GIRLS NOLA—the Girls Initiative for Reproducing Leaders in Society—for an incredibly special reunion and retreat.
