The NOLA Project presents a contemporary Frankenstein story set in the fiercely competitive art world. White, written by 2022 Pulitzer winner James Ijames and directed by Beau Bratcher, is the company’s first theatrical production in NOMA’s Lapis Center for the Arts.

Performances take place on March 1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 19, 29, 30, and 31, at 7:30 pm.

THE STORY

Gus is an ambitious artist with his sights set on a major exhibition. Unfortunately, he doesn’t quite fulfill the museum’s stated desire for “different voices.” With the aid of actor Vanessa, Gus creates the brash Balkonaé Townsend persona. All goes to plan until Balkonaé takes control and Gus has to face his creation head-on to ridiculous results.

White is a dark comedy intended for mature audiences. The content includes overt racism as well as microaggressions against BIPOC people. It also contains adult language, examples of homophobia and misogyny, and a simulated sex scene.

TICKETING AND PERFORMANCE INFORMATION

All performances start at 7:30 pm. Café NOMA will be open nightly for dinner service from 6 to 7 pm. Snacks and beverages will be available from  6 to 7:30pm before the performance begins.

General admission is $38 for adults | $30 for NOMA members | $20 for guests under 21 | $55 for Premier Seating

Tickets for the March 1 and 2 performances are available for a special $10 rate.

Online ticket sales end two hours prior to performances. If you wish to purchase tickets less than two hours prior to a show, you will need to do so in person at the show venue.
