Small Talk: Fashion designer Serena Gili on A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes

Fri, May 18th, 2018 at 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Small Talks are ten to fifteen minute gallery talks focused on one object or a small group of objects. These brief informal sessions enrich the visitor experience and allow visitors to learn more about artworks in our permanent holdings as well as those on view in temporary exhibitions.

Join fashion designer Serena Gili in the exhibition A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes, where one of her ensembles is on display. Gili graduated from Central Saint Martins BA and MA fashion course, with a focus on knitwear design. Her BA collection earned her the second runner-up L’Oréal Professional Design Talent Award and a mentorship at the Sarabande foundation (Lee Alexander McQueen CBE). Gili’s design work is creative and precise, with great attention to fine details combined with a strong interest towards innovative and unconventional materials. Inspired by religion, uniformity, devotion and control, Gili creates pieces close to sacred art and religious objects. Her current collection is a sensory feast that you hear before seeing, with a rat-a-tat-tat of thousands of glass beads against molded acrylic. She currently works as a freelance designer in London.
