Noontime Talk with Dr. Catherine Clinton

Wed, October 7th, 2015 at 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM

Join Dr. Catherine Clinton, Denman Chair of American History at the University of Texas at San Antonio for a Noontime Talk. Noontime Talks are brief, casual discussions on exhibitions or works of art in the galleries, given by NOMA curators and special guests.

“THE WORLD OF HARRIET FLOWER MATHEWS: Plantation Mistresses in the Antebellum South”

Dr. Clinton, a well-known authority on southern women and the Civil War, addresses A Louisiana Parlor: Antebellum Taste & Context with special insight into the plantation household and the role of the “plantation mistress.” The talk draws from the lecturer’s pioneering study of the much-mythologized pre-Civil-War Southern belle.

Thanks to The Helis Foundation, Wednesdays are free for Louisiana residents, so stop in and learn something new!

This program is co-sponsored by the Midlo Center for New Orleans Studies at the University of New Orleans.
