Small Talks and Noontime Talks for September 12–19

Small Talks are ten-to-fifteen-minute gallery talks focused on one object or a small group of objects. These brief informal sessions enrich the visitor experience and allow visitors to learn more about works of art in NOMA’s permanent holdings as well as those on view in temporary exhibitions.

Wednesday, September 12, 11 am: Maarten van Heemskerck’s Apollo and the Muses with docent Bert Deffes3 pm: Georges Braque’s Landscape at L’Estaque with docent Janet Krane

Friday, September 14, 11 am: Docent Regina Shujaa discusses the large commissioned mural in NOMA’s first-floor elevator lobby, Forever, by Odili Donald Odita

Saturday, September 15, 11 am: Docent Ambika Prasad discusses paintings from the Dutch Golden Age

Wednesday, September 19, 3 pm: Decorative Arts Curator Mel Buchanan will discuss the 1980s-era designs of the Milan-based Memphis Group

Noontime Talks (12 pm) are casual conversations frequently scheduled throughout the year at noon between artists, curators, and other special guests with NOMA visitors. In the week ahead, Curator Katie Pfohl will discuss installations from Changing Course: Reflections on New Orleans Histories on Wednesday, September 12. Curator Russell Lord will lead visitors through the new exhibition Past Present Future: Building Photography at the New Orleans Museum of Art on Wednesday, September 19.
