NOMA and Mélange Dance Company present RISE for Mother Earth in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden on April 22, 24, and 26.

RISE takes audiences on a surreal journey through the wonders of the sea—a boundless body that inextricably connects us all—as her currents regulate our global climate and her floor holds our planet’s record of change. In this original, contemporary dance production, narrative vignettes uplift the voices of those on the frontlines of climate crisis, urging us to connect in our shared humanity and shared fate.

Run time is approximately 90 minutes, with a brief intermission. Seating is on raised grass; you are welcome to bring your own chair or blanket to enjoy this evening of dance, music, and nature. Performances begin at 8 pm on April 22, 24, and 26.

General admission is $30 | $20 for students, seniors, veterans, and dancers.

RISE includes a guest performance by Denise Frazier of Les Cenelles—telling the story of Goldman Environmental Prize winner Sharon Lavigne of RISE St. James in her fight against the invasion of Formosa Plastics. In cooperation with Louisiana Sea Grant, RISE features oral diaries of Grand Isle residents. Mélange Dance Company is also thrilled to collaborate with Climate Clock to get the world to #ActInTime.

RISE is supported in part by the New Orleans Theatre Association, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, the Louisiana Office of Cultural Development, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
