Small Talks and Noontime Talks for November 28 – December 5

Originating from Athens in the 6th century BC, red- and black-figure vases are important relics of the ancient world, with their pictorial scenes providing an important primary source of historical and mythological iconography. Gift of Alvin P. Howard, 16.35

Small Talks are ten-to-fifteen-minute gallery talks focused on one object or a small group of objects. These brief informal sessions enrich the visitor experience and allow visitors to learn more about works of art in NOMA’s permanent holdings as well as those on view in temporary exhibitions.

Wednesday, November 28, 3 pm: Curatorial Fellow Allison Young will discuss the exhibition Lina Iris Viktor: A Haven. A Hell. A Dream Deferred.

Wednesday, November 28, 3:30 pm: NOMA Intern Amy Crum will discuss an object in the Mesoamerican art collection that depicts a Maya ballgame.

Thursday, November 29, 3 pm: Docent Cynthia Kolb will discuss the life and work of Italian artist Umberto Boccioni.

Friday, November 30: Docent Elizabeth Davis will discuss NOMA’s collection of ancient Greek pottery.

Noontime Talks (12 pm) are casual conversations frequently scheduled throughout the year at noon between artists, curators, and other special guests with NOMA visitors. In the week ahead, Curator Russell Lord will discuss the exhibition Past Present Future: Building Photography at the New Orleans Museum of Art on Wednesday, November 28. Curator Vanessa Schmid will lead visitors through The Orléans Collection on Wednesday, December 5.

Admission is FREE to NOMA on all Wednesdays courtesy of The Helis Foundation.

Docent guided tours of the museum are offered daily at 1 pm. Guided tours of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are offered on Saturdays and Mondays at noon through December 15.
