Small Talks and Noontime Talks for December 19–26

Small Talks are ten-to-fifteen-minute gallery talks focused on one object or a small group of objects. These brief informal sessions enrich the visitor experience and allow visitors to learn more about works of art in NOMA’s permanent holdings as well as those on view in temporary exhibitions.

Wednesday, December 19, 3 pm: Curatorial Fellow Allison Young will discuss the works in Lina Iris Viktor: A Haven. A Hell. A Dream Deferred.

Thursday, December 20, 3 pm: Docent Cynthia Kolb will discuss the life and work of artist Jean Arp.

Friday, December 21, 3 pm: Docent Regina Shujaa will discuss Venus Mourning the Death of Adonis by by Flemish artist Thomas Willeboirts-Bosschaert.

Saturday, December 22, 3 pm: Docent Harvey Orth will discuss the Vanuatu Slit Gong, on view in the Art of the Pacific Islands Gallery.

Sunday, December 23, 3 pm: Docent Beth Akin will discuss Giovanni Boldoni’s Portrait of a Young Woman in Profile.

Wednesday, December 26, 3 pm: Docent Beth Akin will discuss Edgar Degas’s Portrait of Estelle Musson Degas.

Noontime Talks (12 pm) are casual conversations frequently scheduled throughout the year at noon between artists, curators, and other special guests with NOMA visitors.Curatorial Fellow Kelsey Brosnan will discuss The Orléans Collection on Wednesday, December 19.

Admission is FREE to NOMA on all Wednesdays courtesy of The Helis Foundation.

Docent guided tours of the museum are offered daily at 1 pm. Guided tours of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are offered, weather permitting, on Saturdays and Mondays at noon. (Call 504.658.4153 to verify.)
