Sculpture Garden Expansion Update: 5/24/18

The Besthoff Sculpture Garden Expansion project is moving along! Neighbors who have stopped by to check in on our progress have likely noticed that the grounds in the expansion area are beginning to take shape, giving a preview of the layout of the new garden. Our partners at Palmisano have begun site work on the newly reshaped lagoon to prepare it for the sculpture pavilion that will be located in the garden, as well as the outdoor amphitheater, which will overlook the lagoon.

The Aqua Dam that was installed in the existing Besthoff Sculpture Garden was compromised in early April amidst a downpour. As a result, our construction partners installed a backup dam formed out of clay, which is visible to the right of the Roosevelt Mall bridge, in the expansion area.

In the month of April, NOMA met with representatives from our local neighborhood organizations to provide updates on the expansion project, and also discuss programming and educational opportunities for the new garden.

NOMA looks forward to an ongoing dialog with our neighbors as the expansion project progresses. To get involved, ask questions or request further information, please contact Margaux Krane at press@noma.org.
