As the 2023-2024 Creative Assembly residency at the New Orleans Museum of Art comes to a close, we celebrate the journeys and impacts of this remarkable group of eight artists. Over the past year, the Creative Assembly cohort has explored the theme of “Neighborhoods in New Orleans,” bringing their talents to the front of the museum’s community engagement efforts. Through programming, performances, and workshops, these artists have left a mark on NOMA that will continue beyond their residency.
This residency, which began in September 2023, has been a powerful reflection of New Orleans’ cultural diversity, resilience, and history. The artists not only created works that celebrate the unique neighborhoods of the city but that also foster a deeper connection between the museum and its surrounding communities. Their efforts have showcased the essential role that artist residencies play in enriching our cultural institutions, as well as the cities they inhabit.
Each of the eight Creative Assembly artists brought a unique perspective to the program, offering visitors new ways to engage with art and the museum, itself. Through poetry, music, dance, photography, and visual art, they created experiences that spoke to the heart of New Orleans and offered diverse, meaningful ways for the public to connect with art.
As we reflect on the past year, we are reminded of the importance of supporting local artists and providing them with platforms for creative expression. The 2023-2024 Creative Assembly cohort has left a lasting legacy at NOMA, creating programs and performances that will continue to inspire and resonate with our visitors for years to come.
As this chapter of the Creative Assembly closes, we extend our deepest gratitude to the 2023-2024 Creative Assembly artists for their dedication, passion, and creativity. We look forward to seeing the future paths their work will take.
