There’s a new sculpture on the way for the New Orleans Museum of Art. A 20-foot-tall aluminum piece by pop modernist Roy Lichtenstein will soon take the prized placement at the museum’s front steps.

It’s called “Five Brushstrokes.”

Picture a three-dimensional take on painting. The colors are the bright variety Lichtenstein uses in his signature take on comic book art.

They’re stacked vertically.

The 1984 piece is a gift to the museum from benefactors Sydney and Walda Bestoff — namesakes of the NOMAsculpture garden adjacent to the main museum.

Lichtenstein became famous in the 1950s and 60s, alongside Andy Warhol.

“Five Brushstrokes” will replace the soaring silver kinetic sculpture by New Orleans artist Lin Emery, which will be moved to a permanent place in the sculpture garden.

The Lichtenstein piece will be in place by the end of the year.
