NOMA Announces Extended Wednesday Hours and Additional Opportunities for Free and Discounted Admission Beginning June 1
The changes provide additional access to the museum for local residents.
NEW ORLEANS — This morning, Susan M. Taylor, The Montine McDaniel Freeman Director of the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) announced several changes to museum admissions with an emphasis on providing additional access for local residents.
Beginning immediately, NOMA is open 12–7 pm every Wednesday. Admission to NOMA will continue to be free on Wednesdays for Louisiana residents, courtesy of The Helis Foundation’s Art for All initiative. Previously, the museum was open 10 am–5 pm, and this change provides time for Louisiana residents to explore the museum free of charge after the nine-to-five workday.
“Since the 1990s, we’ve been able to offer free admission to Louisiana residents on Wednesdays with the generous support of The Helis Foundation,” said Taylor. “We look forward to keeping NOMA open later each Wednesday to encourage more New Orleanians to make museum visits part of their weekly routine.”
All three floors of the museum will be open 12–7 pm on Wednesdays, and the NOMA Museum Shop and Café NOMA by Ralph Brennan will also follow this new schedule. Wednesday programming included with museum admission are gallery talks—now at 12:30 pm each week—and public tours of the museum’s permanent collection—now at 2:00 pm.
The museum is open 10 am–5 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and closed on Mondays. The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden remains free and open to the public seven days a week with seasonal hours: 10 am–6 pm (April–September) and 10 am–5 pm (October–March).
Additionally, NOMA announced new opportunities for Louisiana residents to take advantage of free and discounted admission to the museum during all open hours throughout the week. Louisiana residents participating in the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Louisiana Combined Application Project (LaCAP) are able to take advantage of free general admission for two adults to the museum with a Louisiana Purchase Card or digital EBT card.
“We are committed to developing even more ways to increase access to the museum, particularly for local residents and communities,” added Taylor. “These new opportunities for free and discounted admission are designed to complement our ongoing community engagement efforts to welcome new and existing audiences alike.”
Louisiana residents can also receive discounted admission to NOMA when they take public transportation to the museum. Visitors from across the state of Louisiana receive $3 off one adult general museum admission ticket when they show their same-day ticket or receipt from New Orleans Regional Transit Authority buses or streetcars or from the Blue Bikes rideshare network. Guests may bring a physical ticket or Jazzy Pass to the museum or present proof of purchase on the Le Pass or Blue Bikes mobile apps.
Visitors can purchase tickets in person at the museum or online.

NOMA collaborates with the New Orleans Public Library’s Culture Pass program, Ascension Parish Library’s Adventure Pass program, and Jefferson Parish Library’s Experience Pass program to provide free general museum admission with advanced registration through each library system.
NOMA is a Blue Star Museum, providing free general museum admission to active-duty military personnel and their families each year between Armed Forces Day and Labor Day. This year, the Blue Star Museums program runs May 20-September 4, 2023.
