NOMA and the NOLA Project are back in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden for Shakespeare’s As You Like It
Performances are May 9, 10, 13, 16, 17, 18, 20, 23, 24 and 25 at 7 pm
NEW ORLEANS, LA – Widely regarded as Shakespeare’s smartest comedy, the NOLA Project performs As You Like It in NOMA’s Besthoff Sculpture Garden this May.
“At a time when many New Orleans theatre venues are in transition, we are proud to see NOMA and our Sculpture Garden as a new setting for plays,” said NOMA Director Susan M. Taylor. “The NOLA Project is becoming known for these site-specific Shakespeare performances in our Great Hall and Sculpture Garden and it’s thrilling to see these locations become an integral part of their plays.”
The last collaborative project between NOMA and NOLAProject in the Sculpture Garden earned five nominations from the Big Easy Awards, including Best Comedy of 2011.
“We have been eager to get back into NOMA’s Besthoff Sculpture Garden since last year during A Midsummer Night’s Dream and we are thrilled to bring another Shakespeare classic to life for audiences again this spring,” said Artistic Director A.J. Allegra. “I am particularly pleased to welcome back company member Kathlyn Carson all the way from Hong Kong to play Rosalind, Shakespeare’s smartest heroine.”
Like A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It will be a promenade production, moving once to different sections of the Sculpture Garden. Patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket or a lightweight folding chair.
ABOUT AS YOU LIKE IT
Shakespeare’s As You Like It pairs two lovers – Rosalind and Orlando – both banished and seeking refuge when they meet in the Forest of Arden. Only one complication prevents their love from flourishing: the lovesick Rosalind is disguised as a man! As she teaches Orlando how to woo a woman her frustration yields to high comedy in this tale of cross-dressing, mistaken identity, and love, filled with poetry, song, slapstick humor, and shrewd observations about human nature.
WHEN: May 9, 10, 13, 16, 17, 18, 20, 23, 24 and 25 at 7 p.m.
Sculpture Garden will open at 5 p.m. with food, libations and beverages for purchase.

ABOUT NOMA AND THE BESTHOFF SCULPTUREGARDEN?
The New Orleans Museum of Art, founded in 1910 by Isaac Delgado, houses more than 30,000 art objects encompassing 4,000 years of world art.
