NOMA at Night Line-Up

Celebrate the exhibition Black Orpheus: Jacob Lawrence and the Mbari Club during an evening filled with music and art.

Live Music from Kumasi Afrobeat Orchestra

Lapis Center for the Arts

Kumasi is New Orleans’ own full Afrobeat orchestra. They fell in love with a style of music created over 50 years ago by Fela Kuti and Tony Allen, and now they are bringing it to the people of New Orleans. You can expect lots of Fela Kuti tunes and some Afrofunk from ’70s Ghana and Benin, but the majority of Kumasi’s live show features original music stemming from West African concepts, composed to make any crowd move and groove.

DJ Sets from GAC and lo tide

Great Hall

French-Algerian photographer and DJ, GAC is based in New Orleans where she spins her large collection of vinyls around town. Taking inspiration from her own heritage, her musical sets travel from France to North Africa to create eclectic dance floors from Sheila to Fadoul and Les Rita Mistouko.

Curator, producer, and record slinger based in New Orleans, lo tide’s all-vinyl sets meet the moment, threading global rhythms from the International underground. She also loves to dance.

Gallery Talk with Nana Sula

Nana Sula will discuss African spirituality and the power of ancestral traditions in the exhibition Black Orpheus: Jacob Lawrence & the Mbari Club.
