Small Talks are ten-to-fifteen-minute gallery talks focused on one object or a small group of objects. These brief informal sessions enrich the visitor experience and allow visitors to learn more about works of art in NOMA’s permanent holdings as well as those on view in temporary exhibitions.
Wednesday, September 19, 3 pm: Decorative Arts Curator Mel Buchanan will discuss the 1980s-era designs of the Milan-based Memphis Group
Friday, September 21, 11 am: Curator Russell Lord will discuss selections from new exhibition Past Present Future: Building Photography at the New Orleans Museum of Art • 3 pm: Curatorial Fellow Brian Piper will introduce visitors to the focus exhibition Best Seat in the House: Photographs by Del Hall
Saturday, September 22, 3 pm: Docent Naomi Kornman will discuss John Singer Sergeant’s Portrait of Mrs. Wertheimer (1898)
Wednesday, September 26, 3 pm: Curator Lisa Rotondo-McCord will discuss painting and calligraphy by Zen master Nantembo in the Art of Japan Gallery
Noontime Talks (12 pm) are casual conversations frequently scheduled throughout the year at noon between artists, curators, and other special guests with NOMA visitors. In the week ahead, Curator Russell Lord will lead visitors through the new exhibition Past Present Future: Building Photography at the New Orleans Museum of Art on Wednesday, September 19. Curator Mel Buchanan will discuss the newly installed array of decorative arts in the Lupin Galleries on Wednesday, September 26.
