Small Talks are ten-to-fifteen-minute gallery talks focused on one object or a small group of objects. These brief informal sessions enrich the visitor experience and allow visitors to learn more about works of art in NOMA’s permanent holdings as well as those on view in temporary exhibitions.
Wednesday, November 21, 11 am: Docent Harvey Orth will discuss recycling in art, as evidenced in Inka Dinka Doo by John Chamberlain.
Wednesday, November 21, 3 pm: Docent Dennis Malloy will discuss Louise Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun’s Portrait of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France (c. 1788).
Friday, November 23, 11 am: Docent Janet Krane will discuss Bacchiacca’s Portrait of a Young Lute Player (c. 1524–1525).
Friday, November 23, 3 pm: Docent Connie Traub will discuss the life and works of artist Louise Bourgeois.
Saturday, November 24, 3 pm: Docent Rosemary Hays-Thomas will discuss the life and works of artist Joan Miró.
Sunday, November 25, 3 pm: Docent Mary Lynn Stumpf will discuss the Kuntz Collection of Decorative Arts.
Wednesday, November 28, 3 pm: Curatorial Fellow Allison Young will discuss the exhibition Lina Iris Viktor: A Haven. A Hell. A Dream Deferred.
Wednesday, November 28, 3:30 pm: NOMA Intern Amy Crum will discuss an object in the Mesoamerican art collection that depicts a Maya ballgame.
Noontime Talks (12 pm) are casual conversations frequently scheduled throughout the year at noon between artists, curators, and other special guests with NOMA visitors. In the week ahead, Curator Katie Pfohl will lead visitors through the exhibition Ear to the Ground: Earth and Element in Contemporary Art on Wednesday, November 21. Curator Russell Lord will discuss the exhibition Past Present Future: Building Photography at the New Orleans Museum of Art on Wednesday, November 28.

Docent guided tours of the museum are offered daily at 1 pm. Guided tours of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are offered on Saturdays and Mondays at noon through December 15.
