Small Talks and Noontime Talks for November 14 – 21

Small Talks are ten-to-fifteen-minute gallery talks focused on one object or a small group of objects. These brief informal sessions enrich the visitor experience and allow visitors to learn more about works of art in NOMA’s permanent holdings as well as those on view in temporary exhibitions.

Wednesday, November 14, 3 pm: Docent Elizabeth Davis will discuss the work of artist Max Ernst.

Friday, November 16, 3 pm: Curatorial Fellow Allison Young will discuss the exhibition Lina Iris Viktor: A Haven. A Hell. A Dream Deferred.

Saturday, November 17, 11 am: Docent Ambika Prasad will discuss paintings from the Dutch Golden Age.

Saturday, November 17, 3 pm: Docent Naomi Kornman will discuss NOMA’s collection of Newcomb Pottery.

Wednesday, November 21, 11 am: Docent Harvey Orth will discuss recycling in art, as evidenced in Inka Dinka Doo by John Chamberlain.

Wednesday, November 21, 3 pm: Docent Dennis Malloy will discuss Louise Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun’s Portrait of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France (c. 1788).

Noontime Talks (12 pm) are casual conversations frequently scheduled throughout the year at noon between artists, curators, and other special guests with NOMA visitors. In the week ahead, Curatorial Fellow Kelsey Brosnan will lead visitors through The Orléans Collection on Wednesday, November 14. Curator Katie Pfohl will lead visitors through the exhibition Ear to the Ground: Earth and Element in Contemporary Art on Wednesday, November 21.

Admission is FREE to NOMA on all Wednesdays courtesy of The Helis Foundation.

Docent guided tours of the museum are offered daily at 1 pm. Guided tours of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are offered on Saturdays and Mondays at noon through November 26.
