Starting on Wednesday, February 26, 2026, the New Orleans Museum of Art will offer additional weekly tai chi classes on Wednesdays at 8 am and weekly yoga classes on Wednesdays at 5 pm in the Sydney and Besthoff Sculpture Garden.
This doubling of NOMA’s current tai chi and yoga offerings (which take place weekly on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings, respectively) reflects the museum’s ongoing efforts to provide holistic creative programming for all, while also emphasizing the role of arts and culture organizations (including museums) in maintaining the mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing of local communities. The addition of Wednesday classes also aims to make the museum’s wellness programs more accessible to visitors seeking creative ways to maintain their physical wellbeing while engaging with art and nature.
NOMA’s expansion of tai chi and yoga classes are part of a larger initiative to fortify the museum’s creative wellness offerings in 2026. Dr. Redell Hearn, NOMA’s Chief Educator, notes that expansions to yoga and tai chi exemplify NOMA’s commitment to thinking about wellness broadly, alongside “cornerstone programs like Art Thrives—workshops for participants ages 55 and up—and creative offerings like Soul-Sip, which combines meditation, wine appreciation, and close looking at works of art.”
