In January 2024, Laura Ochoa Rincon, NOMA’s Decorative Arts Trust Curatorial Fellow, gave a presentation at the Decorative Arts Trust’s eighth annual Emerging Scholars Colloquium in New York, New York.
In the talk, Ochoa Rincon discussed the progression of her curatorial vision, including her studies on NOMA’s extensive glass collection, part of a major capstone project for her two-year fellowship at the museum under the leadership of Mel Buchanan, NOMA’s RosaMary Curator of Decorative Arts and Design. Ochoa Rincon wove stories of colonization, economic development, and race using objects from NOMA’s own collection which will be featured in Sand, Ash, Heat: Glass at the New Orleans Museum of Art, opening on August 30, 2024.
