Description

This pair of French candelabra bases shows the exuberant 19th-century Chinoiserie style, which took inspiration from Chinese art and figures but greatly exagerated the effect. This particular pair belonged to Southern statesman Duncan Farrar Kenner (1813-1887) for his Greek Revival style mansion "Ashland," one of the most extravagant pre Civil War homes along the Mississippi River.
