Description
The handheld, plucked instrument called a sansa, is found throughout Africa. It is often referred to as a "thumb piano", reflecting the manner in which the metal or bamboo keys are plucked to produce sound. Keys are attached to a sounding board which is often attached to a resonator such as a carved gourd.
