In Museum

Coat Check Attendant

Duties include:

  • Checking visitor items that are not permitted in the galleries.
  • Providing maps, directions, and information to museum visitors.

Greeters

Duties include:

  • Greeting guests and directing them to the admissions desk to purchase tickets.
  • Directing visitors to the NOMA Museum Shop, Café NOMA, and the Besthoff Sculpture Garden.
  • Answering general questions about the museum and its collection.
  • Giving recommendations to visitors for what to do in and around New Orleans.

Wayfinders

Duties include:

  • Volunteering during special exhibitions
  • Assisting staff to ensure visitors are complying with museum guidelines.
  • Answering visitor questions about the layout of the museum, its collection, and New Orleans.

Volunteers for Programs and Events

Groups and individual volunteers assist with NOMA’s signature yearly events including LOVE in the Garden, Odyssey, Art in Bloom, the NOMA Egg Hunt and Family Festival, and Japan Fest. The timing of these events varies from year to year and the volunteer duties and shifts vary from event to event. Please email volunteer@noma.org to learn more.

Sculpture Garden

Sculpture Garden Pavilion Attendant

Duties include:

  • Greeting visitors as they arrive at the pavilion in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden and discuss the works inside.
  • Ensuring that visitors do not touch the artwork.   
  • Answering general questions about the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, the museum, and its surroundings.

Besthoff Sculpture Garden Office Attendant

Duties include:

  • Being familiar with the location of sculptures in the garden; providing maps to visitors.
  • Selling bottled water to visitors upon request.
  • Answering general questions about the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, the museum, and its surroundings.

Besthoff Sculpture Garden Ambassadors

Duties include:

  • Greeting visitors as they enter the Besthoff Sculpture Garden. 
  • Counting the number of visitors entering the Besthoff Sculpture Garden.
  • Answering visitor questions about the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, the museum, and New Orleans.

Application Process

Apply to become a Visitor Experience volunteer by filling out the form. 

Once accepted into NOMA’s volunteer program, participants will receive training from the museum’s Visitor Experience and Volunteer Team Coordinators. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact volunteer@noma.org.
