Family Fun At NOMA {Worth The Drive}

Right before we launched Jefferson Parish Parent, I was asked by NOMA to become one of their blog ambassadors. I said yes and with everyone on a school break, it’s a great time to visitNOMA and explore all of their family fun activities!

Studio Kids Art Classes for ages 5-10! The theme of the new year is animals in art. Each Saturday students will go on a safari in NOMA’s galleries to see how cultures all over the world represent animals. The classes will focus on a different mediums so that participants will learn 2 and 3-dimensional techniques. Experienced teaching artist, Belinda Tanno provides skill-building lessons and engaging projects inspired by works of art from NOMA’s permanent collection. Classes are limited to 12 students.

  • Call 504-658-4128 or email education@noma.org to register or for more information.
  • 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Cost per class: $25 members / $30 nonmembers

StoryQuest- Every Saturday at 11:30 am in the gift shop, local professional artist, actors and authors bring art to life through stories. After the stories are read, there is a scavenger hunt through out the museum to find artwork that correlates with the stories of the week. When your child finishes their scavenger hunt they get a prize. I love the way StoryQuest combines art with literature and gives young children a reason and chance to explore NOMA.

Friday Nights At NOMA – Every Friday Night from 5-9 NOMAoffers a wide variety of family fun. From book signings, to art activities, to live performances, each Friday is a little different. They currently don’t’ have any Friday Nights posted so keep an eye on the NOMA website for more information.

So go visit NOMA, enjoy some art, run around the Sculpture Garden and have fun. We promise it’s worth the drive!
