Bring the New Orleans Museum of Art into your home and get creative together through our launch of Virtual Studio KIDS! workshops. Join us for an all-hands-in guided workshop designed for young artists and their grown-ups to make together via Zoom. Meet other families, look closely at a NOMA artwork, and practice an art-making technique using materials you can find around the house. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect and create together, even while we are apart!

Box Top Assemblages
Sculptor Louise Nevelson, known for creating with discarded objects, playfully called herself “the original recycler.” Her monumental sculptures—often all-black or all-white—fit together like puzzle pieces. In this virtual family workshop, repurpose to-be-discarded objects around the house into an assembled sculpture in a shoe box lid or cereal box.
Materials:
- Cardboard or plastic box base (a shoe box lid, cereal box, or produce container works well)
- Solid colored paper, paint, or a thick marker
- Household objects to repurpose like paper towel and toilet paper rolls, metal tins, plastic tops, egg cartons, corks, bottle caps, or soda tabs, rubber bands, paper clips, and more!
- Scissors
- Liquid glue (or a strong tape like masking or duct tape)
