Talks and Tours, April 3–10

Small Talks are ten-to-fifteen-minute gallery talks focused on one object or a small group of objects. These brief informal sessions enrich the visitor experience and allow visitors to learn more about works of art in NOMA’s permanent holdings as well as those on view in temporary exhibitions.

Gallery Talks at 12 pm are casual conversations frequently scheduled throughout the year at noon between artists, curators, and other special guests with NOMA visitors. Curator Katie Pfohl will discuss Vodou flags on display in Bondye: Between and Beyond on Wednesday, April 3. She will join Curatorial Fellow Allison Young for an Art Primer discussion on Wednesday, April 10, about the “Louisiana Five,” a group of groundbreaking artists whose works were displayed at a NOMA the 1977 exhibition Five from Louisiana. The exhibition featured work by five Louisiana artists who had gained international prominence: Robert Rauschenberg, Lynda Benglis, Tina Girouard, Richard “Dickie” Landry, and Keith Sonnier.

Docent guided tours of the museum are offered daily at 1 pm. Guided tours of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are offered on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays at noon, weather permitting. (Call 504.658.4153 to verify.)
