NEW ORLEANS, LA – In the wake of flooding in metro Houston and southeast Texas from Hurricane Harvey, New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) is partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank to host a donation drive of nonperishable food, cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene products to alleviate the needs of those affected. The campaign, entitled The Art of Giving: Help our Texas Neighbors, will run throughout the entire month of September.
Throughout the duration of the drive, donors are welcomed to bring goods to NOMA’s collection station, located in the museum’s Great Hall. Donors are not required to pay museum admission fees to drop off goods. The museum will offer one free drink ticket to individuals who bring in a Second Harvest donation during Friday Nights at NOMA, a weekly museum event featuring live music, movies, artist talks, and more.
“In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, NOMA was able to regain its footing thanks to the generous support of individuals and groups from around the country,” said Susan Taylor, the Montine McDaniel Freeman Director of NOMA. “We intend to pay it forward whenever possible.”
NOMA is accepting the following necessary items, which can be dropped off at the front desk during all museum hours, including Friday Nights at NOMA:
NONPERISHABLE FOOD: Canned vegetables & fruits, canned meat (tuna and chicken), canned soups/stews, canned beans, canned chili, cereal, Ensure & PediaSure, pasta, peanut butter, protein bars/granola bars, rice, and shelf-stable milk
CLEANING SUPPLIES: Gloves, scrub brushes, sponges, trash bags
