The New Orleans Museum of Art is celebrating its 100th birth anniversary this week, and it’s doing so by opening its doors for 31 continuous hours.
From Friday, December 16 at 10 am until Saturday, December 17 at 5 pm, NOMA will remain open, inviting residents and visitors to celebrate its 100 years with music, family art making activities and walk-throughs at no charge.
“These treasures belong to the people of New Orleans,” said Grace Wilson, the museum’s director of communications and marketing, in an email. “This weekend we will open the doors for all to enjoy them.”
There will also be a talk about NOMA’s rich history, as well as our bright future. There’s also our centennial exhibition “NOMA 100: Gifts for the Second Century” not to be missed.
The museum, originally named the Isaac Delgado Museum of Art, opened its doors on December 16, 1911. At the time, the collection consisted of no more than nine works of art. Over the past 100 years, the museum has grown its collection to nearly 40,000 art objects in its permanent collection – the newest 110 works of which are on display in the centennial exhibition, NOMA 100: Gifts for the Second Century.
