At the recent opening of “Leah Chase: Paintings by Gustave Blache III” at NOMA, chef Leah Chase said, “We’ve got some mighty women in this city!” Elisabeth Vigeé-Lebrun is arguably the most important female painter of the 18th century. For the museum’s 75th anniversary, NOMA’s Women’s Volunteer Committee raised the funds to purchase this official portrait of Marie Antoinette. Visitors can see her each time they visit on the museum’s second floor.
