NOMA Internship Opportunities

The New Orleans Museum of Art offers internship opportunities in all museum departments. Internships are unpaid and subject to departmental need each semester, causing internships to vary each semester.

Department of Administration and Finance

  • Accounting
    Gain experience in nonprofit accounting by assisting with cash receipts, accounts payable and budget processes and systems.
  • Human Resources
    Assist the Human Resources Manager with recruitment, training and development, and tasks pertaining to organizational practice within a museum setting.


Department of Curatorial Affairs

  • Curatorial
    Learn how exhibitions and permanent collection installations come together by assisting the curatorial staff with research and writing projects, and exhibition logistics.
    • Current curatorial areas at NOMA: Modern and Contemporary; Asian; African; Art of the Americas; Photography, Prints, and Drawings; European
    • Writing sample(s) required.
    • Graduate level Art History students are preferred.
  • Digital Projects
    Assist the Digital Assets Manager with database, videography for museum projects, other collection digitization tasks.
  • Registrar
    Learn how NOMA’s collection of almost 40,000 objects and many objects on loan are organized, cataloged, and moved between other institutions.


Department of Development and External Affairs

  • Public Relations and Marketing
    Promote and position the institution for the purpose of media visibility, revenue enhancement, and audience growth by assisting with social media, e-newsletters, press releases, advertisements and more.
    • Writing sample(s) required.
  • Development
    Assist the Development team with membership and fundraising projects including marketing and recruitment, gift processing, donor database management, grant research, writing and reporting, and other administrative tasks.
    • Writing sample(s) may be requested.
  • Graphic Design
    Assist the Publications & Design team with creating museum publications such as the NOMA Magazine, exhibition catalogs, and program-related brochures.
    • Graphic design portfolio required.
  • Publications 
    Work alongside our Editor of Museum Publications to develop engaging content for NOMA Magazine and the website.
    • Writing sample(s) required.
  • Special Events  
    Gain experience in special events by assisting with facility rental inquiries and venue tours, event planning projects, coordinating event logistics and staffing, and other related assignments. This internship requires regular, ongoing weekend and evening availability. 
  • Visitor Experience 
    Work closely with the Visitor Experience team, assisting the Volunteer Coordinator and Administrative Coordinator to enhance the visitor experience through front of house duties and other administrative work as assigned.


Department of Learning and Engagement

  • Early Childhood Learning
    Learn more about the role of museums in early childhood learning and arts education through NOMA’s Mini Masters program by assisting the Early Childhood Educator with preparation of lesson materials, data collection, museum and classroom visits, and other tasks and projects as assigned.
  • Youth Programs
    Engage children of all ages by assisting in NOMA’s Saturday Studio KIDS! art classes, summer art camp, family festivals, and Friday Night art-making activities.
  • Teen Programs
    Work with high school students from across the city through assisting with seasonal, one-time, and after-school teen-centered programs including the Creative Careers summer internship program and the Teen Squad, a council of high school students that meets during the school year to design and implement programming for their peers.
  • Public Programs
    Engage museum visitors by assisting with the planning and implementation of NOMA’s public programs including Friday Nights @ NOMA, Noon Time Talks, lectures, film screenings, theater productions, and more.
  • Museum Education
    Assist the Learning and Engagement team with docent training, educator workshops, data entry, digital and audio learning tools, art classes, educational resource development, program support, and other projects as needed.
