Get Creative with Studio KIDS!
In 2020, Studio KIDS presents a dynamic series of children’s art classes exploring our southern Louisianan environments and homes: both real and imagined. Each week, participants will engage with different sources of inspiration in NOMA’s galleries or the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, starting with explorations of the landscape and its creatures, then shifting focus indoors to explore exquisite constructions in the interior.
Perfect for kids ages 5-10 who want to get creative at the museum, each class features different media and techniques. Register for one class or the entire series! Please register in advance to ensure your spot.
Call 504-658-4128 or email email@example.com to register or for more information.
Ages 5 – 10 | Saturdays, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Cost per class: $25 members | $30 nonmembers
JANUARY-APRIL 2020 SCHEDULE
Waterways | Bend with the curves of the Mississippi River that wind through the Crescent City as we get inspired by Louisiana’s waterways using water-based paints.
Swamp Stories | Bottle-caps become flowers and yarn becomes Spanish moss in this imaginative workshop. Craft a Louisiana-inspired landscape on cardboard and explore the endless possibilities of creative reuse and recyclable materials.
Winged Beings | Discover the process of printmaking using winged beings of all kinds as inspiration! Scour the museum to spot flying creatures like birds, cherubs and griffins in Italian Renaissance artworks.
Imprints in the Interior | Look closely at decorative objects in the museum, ranging from ornate ceramic vases to metal plates and cups fit for the fanciest of tea parties. Practice making your own designs and create unique imprints in clay.
Sculptural Minis | Venture into 3D design by constructing a miniature chair of your own. With structural cardboard and collaged fabric elements, you too can create a functional, fantastic piece of furniture inspired by NOMA’s collection.
Searching for Symbolism | Uncover hidden messages in ordinary objects in the Italian and Dutch galleries. Be sure to bring your curious eyes and minds for looking, learning, and drawing all about symbols in the museum!
