POSITION TITLE: Creative Aging and Access Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Deputy Director of Learning and Engagement
FSLA: Full Time/Salary
Salary Range: $45,000 – 48,000
The New Orleans Museum of Art seeks a Creative Aging and Access Coordinator. The incumbent is responsible for creating programs and engagement initiatives to make NOMA a welcoming, accessible, and inclusive environment for people with a range of backgrounds and abilities. A particular focus of this position will be the development and launch of NOMA’s exciting new Creative Aging Initiative, Art Thrives.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop, coordinate, and evaluate all of NOMA’s Creative Aging programs.
- Handle all logistics for Creative Aging programs including, but not limited to, drafting program agreements, creating invoices, processing payments, distributing internal program memos, and more.
- Serve as the liaison for Creative Aging and Access programs with all internal departments, representing at logistics meetings, presenting at interdepartmental programming meetings, and coordinating cross-departmental meetings as required.
- Handle registration for all Creative Aging and Access programs, send reminder emails prepare program rosters, etc.
- Recruit, hire, and supervise contract teaching artists.
- Collaborate with teaching artists to develop curriculum for Creative Aging and Access programs.
- Act as lead gallery educator and teacher for Creative Aging and Access programs in concert with a team of teaching artists.
- In partnership with NOMA’s Community Engagement Curator, take the lead on outreach to new and under-resourced communities to build awareness and participation in NOMA’s Creative Aging initiatives.
- Work in partnership with NOMA’s Community Engagement Curator to align Creative Assembly (Community Engagement Initiative https://noma.org/learn/creative-assembly/) and Creative Aging to work in concert in the shared goal to develop inclusive art experiences as vehicles for personal exploration, community collaboration, and social change.
- Oversee, develop and implement NOMA’s Creative Aging Advisory, bringing together a diverse and reflective group of elders and elder advocates to advise the museum on continued, authentic, and reciprocal engagement with older adults.
- Liaison with and support NOMA’s communications team in the development of Creative Aging program descriptions, weekly e-newsletters, program e-blasts, social media content development, and other promotional needs as required/requested.
- Liason with and support NOMA’s development team in all fundraising efforts and activities related to Creative Aging such as grant writing, grant reporting, funder presentations, and other areas of support as required/requested. Work with development, grant reporting
- Maintain consistent and ongoing archive and documentation of Creative Aging programs including photography, video when appropriate, program reporting and accurate accounting of program numbers.
- Expand and deepen existing Access program offerings such as ASL Tours, Programs for adults with alzheimers, Programs for young people on the Autism Spectrum, and more.
- Assist with other programs as needed including Community Festivals, First Fridays, Docent Training and more.
- Represent Creative Aging and Access programs at conferences, partner meetings, community organization events.
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices for working with Creative Aging and Access audiences.
- Apply best practices for accessibility and usability in all in person and virtual programs.
- Support other Learning and Engagement initiatives and programs as needed
- BA or equivalent Coursework in areas such as Education, Community Engagement, Visual Arts, Arts Administration, Art Therapy, Art History, or closely related career field.
- 2-4 years of demonstrated experience in community-based arts programming and/or museum education and gallery teaching as well as knowledge of museum access programming.
- Experience working with older adults in an informal learning environment
- Must work well in a collaborative environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills working directly with a diverse range of audiences.
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Demonstrated skills in organizing, determining priorities and taking initiative, willingness and ability to work toward objectives, shifting priorities when needed.
