DESCRIPTION:NOMA presents Music in the Garden\, a seasonal outdoor music series. Encounter the sounds of local New Orleans musicians while strolling through the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden on select Sunday afternoons throughout the year. Learn more at @coralai.music on Instagram. \nAbout James Andrews and the Crescent City All Stars\n \nJames Andrews is a celebrated Jazz and New Orleans Rhythm and Blues artist.  Born into a culturally rich New Orleans family\, Andrews is the grandson of the late  Jesse “O Poo Pah Do” Hill\, the older brother of Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews\, the cousin of Glen David Andrews\, and the late Travis “Trumpet Black” Hill.  It is no surprise James has excelled and garnered the love and admiration of producers and fans everywhere.\n\nAndrews was raised in the Tremé neighborhood in New Orleans’s most culturally vibrant community. Andrews played in several brass bands\, including the Tremé Brass Band\, the Junior Olympia Brass Band\, New Birth Brass Band\, and had the opportunity to study with NEA Jazz Master Danny Barker as a member of the Fairview Baptist Church Brass Band where many New Orleans young Jazz musicians went to learn the music.  Barker gave James the name — “Satchmo of the Ghetto.”\n\nJames Andrews and the Crescent City All Stars Jazz Band have performed in some of the nation’s most prestigious theaters and festivals including the Kennedy Center in Washington DC\, Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City\, the Sundance Film Festival in Utah\, and many others. Their international appearances include the Nice France Jazz Festival and venues in the United Arab Emirates\, Cuba\, Germany\, Switzerland\, Haiti\, Brazil\, Spain\, Italy\, South Korea\, and other countries.  James Andrews and the Crescent City All Stars Jazz Band are ambassadors of New Orleans music keeping the tradition alive.

A versatile performer\, he is equally at home in traditional New Orleans jazz\, swing\, brass band music\, and modern styles. Anderson has performed with notable artists and ensembles including Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra\, earning a reputation as a reliable and expressive collaborator on stages throughout the city. Deeply grounded in New Orleans culture and community\, his playing reflects the city’s rich musical lineage while bringing his own voice to every performance.

Her musical journey began early\, performing traditional and early music around the world with her family and studying classical piano in Barcelona and Havana under Professor Teresa Junco. Known for her versatility\, Albero blends jazz\, flamenco\, early music\, and Afro-Cuban rhythms into a distinctive and expressive style.\n\n\nIn addition to her performing career\, Albero is a passionate educator\, having taught at Cornish College of the Arts and Western Washington University.
