Her popular Mardi Gras song was recorded with Smokey Johnson (Fats Domino’s drummer) and George French (Fats’ bassist and Cosimo Matassa studio musician). She began recording in the early 1970s in Memphis with producer Willie Mitchell and has contributed to numerous New Orleans projects\, including a jazz album with Flora Purim and a WEZB compilation of the city’s top pop acts. \nA versatile\, ageless singer now in her 80s\, Henrietta performs weekly at Holy Diver in Tremé and has maintained a strong presence across the region for 45 years with regular appearances at Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro\, Pat O’Brien’s Piano Bar\, and Morgan Freeman’s Ground Zero Blues Club in Biloxi. She’s performed Brazilian jazz at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival — she and bandleader Edu were famously the first couple married at Jazz Fest in 1982 — and has sung the National Anthem at Saints games on multiple occasions.\n\nOn television she’s frequently cast as the quintessential “older New Orleans–style singing pianist\,” appearing in series such as HBO’s Togetherness and TNT’s Claws. Nationally she’s performed at iconic venues including the Troubadour\, Chateau Marmont\, the Roosevelt Hotel (L.A.)\, Catch a Rising Star and Mimi’s Piano Bar (NYC). Internationally she has brought her New Orleans–inflected music to audiences in Japan\, Italy and Brazil\, and she has played private events for corporations and celebrities. SUMMARY:Music in the Garden: Kr3wcial and Khiry Bey
DESCRIPTION:NOMA presents Music in the Garden\, a seasonal outdoor music series hosted in the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden. \nEncounter the sounds of local New Orleans musicians while strolling through the Besthoff Sculpture Garden on select Sunday afternoons throughout the year. Performances will take place alongside sculptures across the garden. \nThis installment of Music in the Garden will feature acoustic sets from Kr3wcial and saxophonist Khiry Bey. \nAttendance for this event is free. Registration is recommended. \nRegister Here \nPerformance Schedule\n\n\n\nPerformer\nTime and Location\n\n\nKhiry Bey\n2:00 – 3:00 pm\n\n\nKr3wcial\n3:00 – 4:00 pm\n\n\n\n  \n\nAbout the Performers\nKhiry Bey\n \nBorn and raised in New Orleans\, saxophonist Kirsten Theodore (Khiry Bey) began showing an interest in music at the tender age of five. As Theodore matured as a musician\, she fell in love with the alto saxophone. Since middle school\, she has played the alto sax in performances with everyone from Jon Batiste to Herbie Hancock\, won multiple awards for her solos\, and composed original music that debuted at the New\nOrleans House of Blues Music Forward Foundation. Kirsten has earned numerous awards at competitions and festivals\, starting in middle school\, when she won first place in the Louisiana District VI Honor Band\nfor three years. At age thirteen\, she was awarded “outstanding soloist” at Orlando’s Disney Music Festival and also “best soloist” at The Loyola University Jazz\nFestival. In 2017\, she was selected as a finalist for the House of Blues’s Music Forward: Bringing Down the House showcase\, where she headlined her first show.\n\nTheodore has performed and worked with many artists such as Herbie Hancock\, Jon Batiste\, Trombone Shorty\, Wendell Brunious\, Roderick Paulin\, Jessie McBride\, Clarence Johnson\, Irvin Mayfield\, Glen David Andrews\, Jeffrey “Jellybean” Alexander\, Delfeayo Marsalis\, and more. Theodore attended the Berklee College of Music Women in Jazz summer program and studied under Terri Lynne Carrington and Tia Fuller. Theodore is a graduate of the New Orleans Center For Creative Arts. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies at University of New Orleans and will be pursing a master’s degrees at Tulane University. While furthering her education\, she has launched a For NOLA by NOLA project with all local musicians to pay homage to the great city that created her.\nKr3wcial\n \nIn the vibrant tapestry of New Orleans’ rich musical heritage\, Kr3wcial emerges as a dynamic figure\, transcending the boundaries of traditional hip-hop. Born and raised in the heart of the Crescent City\, Kr3wcial’s music is a sonic journey through the soul of New Orleans itself. With lyrics that delve deep into the city’s intricate layers—from the gritty streets to the transcendent spirit of its people—he weaves a narrative that is both raw and poetic\, reminiscent of the city’s jazz and blues roots. Kr3wcial’s tracks\, often enlivened with the pulse of brass and the rhythm of New Orleans\, serve as a compelling commentary on the city’s multifaceted nature. Through his verses\, he explores themes of resilience\, identity\, and social consciousness. Beyond the studio\, Kr3wcial is a community advocate\, using his platform to inspire positive change. Collaborating with local nonprofits\, he harnesses the unifying power of music to uplift the very city that fuels his creativity. Kr3wcial is also an alumnus of NOMA’s Creative Assembly residency program.

The performance will be interspersed and connected with his lecture titled “The Hispanic Psaltery in the Americas.” \nBeverages and Light Bites from Café NOMA\nEnjoy specialty cocktails\, mocktails and a light bites menu from Café NOMA leading up to Armitano Domingo’s lecture. \n\nAdditional Information\nAbout Marc Armitano Domingo\n \nMarc Armitano Domingo (b. 1996) is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York City\, working across oil painting\, porcelain\, and historical music performance. His visual work delves into sacred and natural themes\, rendered through shadowy\, atmospheric\, and whimsical compositions on copper\, linen\, and porcelain.  \nAs a leading performer and researcher of the salterio—a historical dulcimer popular in 17th- and 18th-century Spain\, Italy\, and colonial Latin America—Armitano Domingo focuses on reconstructing both the repertoire and authentic playing techniques. He performs on a replica 18th-century salterio\, using special finger rings to pluck the strings rather than hammers. \nAcross media\, his work engages with history and memory whether through nostalgic\, tenebrous landscapes\, delicate porcelain forms\, or the vibrant\, resonant sound of the salterio. His practice confronts the cultural amnesia that allows once-important traditions to fade\, reclaiming forgotten forms and questioning why they were so readily lost to history.

SUMMARY:Music in the Garden feat. T Marie & Bayou Juju and Haruka Kikuchi & Friends
DESCRIPTION:NOMA presents Music in the Garden\, a seasonal outdoor music series. \nEncounter the sounds of local New Orleans musicians while strolling through the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden on select Sunday afternoons throughout the year. Performances will take place alongside sculptures across the garden. \nT Marie & Bayou Juju will perform from 2-3 pm in the Pine Grove. Haruka Kikuchi & Friends will perform from 3-4 pm in the Ampitheater. \nFrom the Artists\nT Marie & Bayou Juju\nT Marie & Bayou Juju play traditional and original Louisiana music. In addition to honoring traditional Cajun\, Creole\, Zydeco\, Swamp Pop\, Country\, Blues\, and New Orleans songs\, the band also contributes to the next generation of South Louisiana sound with their own original tunes\, performed in both Louisiana French and English. The band started through gatherings at fires\, suppers\, porches\, and levees\,  and you’ll feel this vibrant community of friendship echo through all of their music. These days you can catch  them at dive bars\, dancehalls\, and festivals\, sharing that same good juju and joy. They play regularly in New Orleans\, and the band has toured in California\, Colorado\, North Carolina\, France\, and Spain. So grab your dancing shoes—or shrimp boots—and get ready to dive into some authentic Cajun magic below sea level! \n \nMarie-Isabelle\nMarie-Isabelle Pautz is a second generation culture bearer. She grew up across the street from her grandparents\, who immersed her in Louisiana French and folkways. Her grandfather played fiddle at house dances\, her grandmother was the queen bee of the neighborhood bartering system\, and her mother joined the movement to protect Louisiana French. When an injury prevented her from dancing to the music she grew up with\, Marie-Isabelle started performing on stage. In addition to performing traditionals from South Louisiana\, she also writes her own original songs and poetry.
