Teen Summer Series workshop with Dorothy Ray

Fri, August 28th, 2020 at 4:00 PM

Although we can’t gather in person, the Teen Summer Series aims to create a virtual space for us to learn about artists’ practices and to create together! Join us on Zoom on Fridays August 14, 21, and 28 at 3 pm for a series of workshops with local creatives working in a range of mediums.

Workshops are FREE and open to all teens, however space is limited. Please check out the descriptions and materials needed for each workshop below, and follow this link to sign up for one or all three! No art experience or prior knowledge is necessary to participate.

Mental Building Blocks with Dorthy Ray

August 28th, 3 pm on Zoom

Catch a look inside photographer, organizer, and mixed media artist Dorthy Ray’s mind in this workshop on the creative process. Often starting with a meditative “brain dumping” exercise, Ray systematically sorts through collected ideas and experiences and conducts research to produce an artwork, “starting with a mop and ending with a needle.” Bring your own collected visuals, ideas, intentions and sketches and learn to harness, hone and fine-tune within your own creative process.

What you’ll need: Paper, things to write or draw with, and your cell phone or social media saved images / camera roll

About the Teaching Artist

Dorthy Ray is a Louisiana native photographer, organizer, mixed media artist and educator working with The Future Fund and Broadmoor Senior High to provide training to middle and high school students to prepare them for jobs in the creative workforce. Dorthy Ray’s work will be on view at Under Nine Studios in Chalmette on Saturday, August 28th.

The workshop is projected to run 90 minutes on Zoom. Open to all teens! Spots are limited.
