Art and A/C: Free admission to NOMA if August temps hit 95 degrees
Admission to NOMA will be FREE to Louisiana residents on the hottest days of late summer as part of the “Art and A/C” program courtesy of The Helis Foundation. Throughout the month of August, if the temperature forecasted by FOX8 chief meteorologist David Bernard is at or above 95 degrees, three of New Orleans’ top art museums will open their doors free of charge. In 2005, documentary filmmaker Rick Beyer became fascinated with the history of the “Ghost Army,” a top-secret tactical deception unit charged with tricking the Nazis during World War II whose work had only recently been declassified. Bob Snead is among the dozens of artists represented in Pride of Place: The Making of Contemporary Art in New Orleans, an exhibition of more than 70 works of art donated to NOMA by renowned New Orleans’ gallerist Arthur Roger. Snead’s Family Dollar General Tree represents the type of “small box” stores that have proliferated across America. It is created entirely of cardboard boxes salvaged from these stores, emblazoned with the logos of the crated products. Read More
