MASTER ABSTRACTIONIST RALSTON CRAWFORD IN NEW ORLEANS

By Doug MacCash, The Times-Picayune : Artist Ralston Crawford (1906-1978) became world renowned for his spare, geometric depictions of industrial sites in the 1940s. Less well known are his extensive series of jazz musician photographs and New Orleans cemetery-inspired paintings and drawings. Watch as two of Ralston Crawford's sons, Neelon and John, discuss their father's love of Crescent City music and culture as they prepared for the opening of the New Orleans Museum of Art's exhibit ‘Ralston Crawford and Jazz,’ a collection of 150 photos, drawings, paintings, prints and short films by the master mid-century abstractionist.
