Italian paintings and sculpture.
Dutch (16th and 17th centuries)
The Golden Age of Dutch painting comes to life through examples of genre (scenes of everyday life), portraiture, landscape and still life.
2nd Floor
Louisiana Furniture (18th and 19th centuries)
A partial house interior has been recreated to depict life in Louisiana during the 18th and 19th centuries.
The two rooms are adorned with period art and furniture.
English and Continental Portrait Miniatures (16th - 19th centuries)
The gallery is filled with over 300 examples of portrait miniatures. These pocket-sized artworks are portable paintings designed as
mementos of the beloved.
French (17th - 19th centuries)
Spanning the periods of the Baroque, Rococo, Realism, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, the French collection includes works by
Boucher, Vigée-Lebrun, Degas, and Monet.
American (18th and 19th centuries)
Works of portraiture, genre, and landscape are included in NOMA's American collection of paintings,
which include works by West, Copley, Peale and Sargent.
Louisiana (19th and early 20th centuries)
Representing a survey of Louisiana art, NOMA's collection includes images of Native Americans, a view of the Battle of
New Orleans and scenes of urban and rural life.
Modern American and European (20th century)
This collection includes works from movements such as Realism, Surrealism, Abstraction, and non-representationalism. Featured artists
include O'Keeffe, Magritte, Picasso, Pollock and Miró.
Works on Paper (15th - 20th centuries)
NOMA's collection of works on paper includes two distinct sections: a survey of the history of photography and a collection of
prints and drawings from all over the world. Changing exhibitions are hosted in the galleries.
Decorative Arts (15th century B.C.E. - 20th century C.E.)
NOMA's decorative arts collection is extensive. Works include glass from ancient Egypt to contemporary America, American pottery,
French porcelain and American and French silver.
3rd Floor
Japanese (16th - 20th centuries)
The Japanese collection surveys prominent schools of the Edo period (1600-1868) with particular strengths in the Nanga,
Zenga and Shijo schools. This collection includes porcelains, ivory carvings, and scroll and screen paintings.
Chinese (30th century B.C.E. - 20th century C.E.)
In the collection of Chinese art are Tang dynasty ceramic tomb figures, jades, bronzes, ceramics, porcelains and a magnificent
11-foot Bodhisattva statue.
Indian (2nd - 19th centuries)
Presenting a survey of 2000 years of Indian art, this collection contains works from the Gandhara, Gupta, Pala and Chola periods.
Works on display include sculptures in stone, wood and bronze, architectural elements and miniature paintings.
African (11th - 20th centuries)
This impressive collection has a representation of Sub-Saharan Africa's five major art producing regions - Western Sudan,
Guinea Coast, Equatorial Forest, Southern Savannah and East and South Africa. Works include sculpture and craftsmanship in wood, terracotta and bronze.
Oceanic (19th - 20th centuries)
The collection of art from Oceania, the art of numerous islands dotting the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean,
demonstrates the creativity that flourished among people with little or no contact with other cultures.
Pre-Columbian (before 15th century)
Represented in the pre-Columbian collection are the arts of Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama and Peru. The collection contains works
from the ancient Aztec, Inca and Maya cultures.
Native American (19th and 20th centuries)
Celebrate the traditional art of Native Americans with NOMA's collection of Kachina dolls, pottery, textiles and ceremonial shields.
