Get Creative with Studio KIDS!

Art classes for students ages 5 – 10

This Spring, Studio KIDS! classes explore environmental themes in NOMA’s galleries to learn how artists use nature as inspiration. Each class features a different medium and participants will learn 2 and 3-dimensional techniques. Register for one class or for all four. Professional teaching artist, Belinda Tanno provides skill-building lessons and engaging projects inspired by works of art from NOMA’s permanent collection. Classes are limited to 12 students.

How Does Your Garden Grow?
Create a garden painting inspired by artists like Claude Monet using Impressionist techniques.

A Bug’s Life
Discover how different artists depict insects and create an imaginary bug world using watercolor and colored pencil.

In the Garden with Henry Moore
Learn about sculptor Henry Moore in the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden and make a clay creation in his style.

Saturday, May 17
Alfresco Sketching
Sketch items from nature such as flowers, shells and bark while learning techniques like pencil shading and more.

Summer Art Camp at NOMA

Spark creativity at NOMA’s Summer Art Camp! Weekly camps include explorations of the museum’s galleries and sculpture garden as inspiration for visual and performing art projects. Professional teaching artists encourage creativity and imagination alongside skill building as campers create projects in a wide array of media.

  • Summer Art Camps at NOMA are for children ages 5-8 and 9-12.
  • Weekly camps include explorations of NOMA’s galleries and sculpture garden as inspiration for visual and performing arts projects.
  • Full or half day options are available.
  • Full day campers must bring a sack lunch.

June 9-13
IN THE STUDIO: Globe Trekker 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Trek through NOMA’s galleries and discover art from around the world. Each day, create your own art inspired by different cultures.

ON THE STAGE: You’re the Poet! 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Express your creativity through poetry, rhythm, and collage using inspiration from NOMA’s collection.

June 16-20
IN THE STUDIO: Imaginary Worlds 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Create an imaginary world inspired by your favorite book using pencil and watercolor.

ON THE STAGE: Puppetry in Action 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Design puppets and set the stage for a puppet show. Students will get into the act by creating an original performance.

June 23-27
IN THE STUDIO: Decorative Designs 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Create decorative objects including paintings, textiles, and more inspired by _ Behind Closed Doors: Art in the Spanish American Home, 1492-1898_.

ON THE STAGE: Spanish & Latin Dance 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Dance your way into Spanish and Latin culture by learning dances like salsa, cha-cha, flamenco and more while learning a little Spanish too!

July 14-18
ON THE STAGE: The Story of Art 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Create a play that dramatizes a fictional series of events that tells the creation story of a work of art.

IN THE STUDIO: Trash Transformation 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Transform found objects into art and other functional objects! Find inspiration in 3rd floor galleries to create a variety of projects.

July 21-25
ON THE STAGE: Landscape Creation 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Learn about the importance of setting in a theatrical production by designing and implementing a full stage set inspired by art in the galleries.

IN THE STUDIO: Imprints of Nature 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Looking at nature for inspiration, create woodland wonder prints and forest fabrics.

July 28-August 1
ON THE STAGE: Sculpture Theatre 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Visit the Sculpture Garden and become a sculpture! Develop brief scenes through games and exercises to explore how the body can tell a story without moving.

IN THE STUDIO: Modern/Pop 1:00 – 4:00 pm Camp is full. Waiting list available.
Release your inner Picasso and explore Modern and Pop Art in NOMA’s collection. Create bright projects in a variety of mediums to make a bold statement.

AGES 9-12

June 2-6
IN THE STUDIO: Off the Wall 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Inspired by Hale Woodruff’s Talladega College murals, work together to create a mural for NOMA’s Courtyard.

ON THE STAGE: Tell Your Story 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Tell the story of you! Explore different ways of crafting your autobiography through poetry, music, art, and more.

July 7-11
ON THE STAGE: Installing Theatre 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Explore the dramatic possibilities of NOMA’s galleries! Create a theater performance inspired by works of art.

IN THE STUDIO: A Story in Pictures 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Tell your story in pictures using different techniques including illustration and cartooning.

Museum Shop

Spark imagination, creativity, and a love of reading. Professional authors, actors and artists are bringing the world of children’s literature to NOMA in this family program. Family activities are offered after each StoryQuest to encourage museum exploration.
