The New Orleans Museum of Art will feel a like a New York museum-of-art on Friday (March 14), as three of the biggest names in the Big Apple visual arts scene share their insights at the 2014 Donna Perret Rosen Lecture.

The participants include Calvin Tomkins, a celebrated author and a writer for The New Yorker magazine; Dodie Kazanjian, an arts columnist for Vogue magazine, and Adam D. Weinberg the director of Whitney Museum of American Art.

Following an introduction by NOMA director Susan Taylor, the visitors will engage in a three-way conversation.

The trio should have plenty to discuss. Tomkins started writing about art in 1960, drawing early attention for his New Yorker profiles of such avant-garde artists as Marcel Duchamp, John Cage, and Robert Rauschenberg. Kazanjian has covered the art world for Vogue magazine since 1989 and once edited “ArtsReview,” a publication of the National Endowment for the Arts. Weinberg has led the Whitney Museum since 2003, where he spearheaded the institution’s capital campaign for the construction of a new 220,000-square-foot Renzo Piano-designed building, which is scheduled to open in 2015.

The annual Donna Perret Rosen Lecture is funded by Benjamin Rosen, in honor of his wife, Donna. This program brings art and museum professionals to NOMA to discuss cultural topics. In 2013, the inaugural lecture drew an overflow crowd to hear painter Frank Stella.

Entrance to the Rosen Lecture is included with museum admission (adult $10). Seating in NOMA’s Stern Auditorium is on a first-come-first served basis for the 6 p.m. lecture. NOMA recommends coming early. The lecture also will be simulcast on a large screen TV in the museum’s Great Hall. For those purchasing museum admission, NOMA offers an online ticketing option, but that does not ensure a seat at the lecture.
